Blog #2021 Wave-sheaf Offering -- Count to Pentecost
Laws concerning the Holy Days are found in Leviticus 23.
Leviticus 23:10-16 reveal detailed instruction regarding the waving of a portion
of freshly harvested barley by the priest before the main harvest could
begin. This event would occur within the Days of Unleavened Bread on the day
following the weekly Sabbath. This activity was performed by the
priest who would wave the offering before the Tabernacle of the Lord.
Scripture instructs that from this point seven Sabbaths or 50 days should be
counted pointing to the next holy day known as the Feast of Firstfruits or
Feast of Weeks. This feast is also known in the Greek language as
Pentecost which simply means "the fiftieth day".
Christ is pictured in the Holy Days and offerings. The Passover lambs
pointed to the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who was sacrificed once and for
all time for the sins of humanity. After Christ's resurrection he
ascended to the Father as the Wave-sheaf and Firstborn of the Firstfruits of
Salvation (John 20:17; Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 15:20, 23).
Year 2021 the count begins on Wave-sheaf Sunday, March 28, and will end 50
days later with Pentecost/Feast of Firstfruits of God's Harvest being
observed on Sunday, May 16th.
